Education in India

In India, education as a fundamental right by the various articles of the Indian Constitution provide for education. Education falls under the control of both the Central Government and the State Governments, with some responsibilities coming from the Central and the states having autonomy for others. Most universities in India are controlled by the Union or central or the State Government.
In India, the Nalanda University was the oldest university-system of education in the world in the modern era of university. In the history of Education in India Takshasila was the earliest centre of higher learning in India from at least 5th century BCE and it is debatable whether it could be regarded a university or not. Education in India is provided by the private sector as well as the public sector, with control and funding coming from three levels: central, state, and local. Western education became involved into Indian society with the establishment of the British Rulers.

India's education system is divided into different levels such as pre-primary level, primary level, elementary level, secondary level, undergraduate level and postgraduate level. These are:

  • Pre-primary education is very important for the development of young children before they enter formal school. Various types of pre primary schools are available in India and more children are now a days attending pre-school (NIPCCD, 2006).

  • Primary Education provides students with a basic understanding of various subjects as well as skills they will use throughout their lives. Primary Education is for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.


  • Elementary Education majors move into the classroom for the trial known as student teaching. This practicum lasts at least one semester, but could go on for a full academic year. Elementary Education has to take any certification examinations required by the state in which you want to work.

  • Secondary Education is a stage of crucial in the educational hierarchy as it prepares the students for higher education and also the world of work. Secondary education is the gateway for transforming the economy, prosperity and establishing social justice in any country.


  • In Undergraduate level a college or university student who has not yet received a bachelor’s or similar degree. But, it opens the world of work to the youth and contributes to socio economic development of the Community.

  • Generally, a postgraduate level is a degree which you study for once you have finished a bachelor’s degree. Some postgraduate degrees require the completion of particular bachelor’s degree, others don’t. 


Education in India includes various types of technical educations such as agriculture, electronics, mechanical etc. as well as vocational educations and all these educations given to students by the modern tools of science in education like A.V. aids (audio-visual aids) as well as others. By these changes in modern education India gives job oriented education to all their students.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is play as a apex body for curriculum related matters for school education in India. The NCERT provides support and technical assistance to a all schools of India and oversees many aspects of enforcement of education policies. In India, the various curriculum bodies handling school education system are:

  • The state government boards, in which the majority of all Indian children are included.

  • The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) conducts three examinations, namely, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE - for Class 10th standard); The Indian School Certificate (ISC - for Class 12th standard) and the Certificate in Vocational Education (CVE - for Class 12th standard).


  • The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts two examinations, namely, the All India Secondary School Examination, AISSE for Class 10th standard and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination, AISSCE for Class 12th standard.

  • The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) conducts two examinations, namely, Secondary Examination and Senior Secondary Examination for All India students and also some courses in Vocational Education.





For known about the education in India it concluded that India education gives the all level of education for Indian as well as outsides students in a cheap and a best quality for the best job oriented purpose and well social for all.
